Greetings and happy autumn from the House! It feels like 2025 has flown by. The House has been buzzing with initiatives, so we are delighted to be able to take a deep breath and update our friends on what’s been happening.

Data, Data, and more Data: Our Unwavering Continued Commitment to Transparency

At Heartland House, transparency isn’t just a policy—it’s a promise we’re keeping. As a recipient of your tax dollars we believe in demonstrating to you the profound impact your investment makes, and so we invite you to view our latest outcomes infographic in our Annual Report at https://heartlandhouse.org/our-impact/annual-report. As you’ll see, the dedication of our team and the hard work of the men in our care have resulted in a remarkable year of transformation for so many.

Leveraging the Power of AI in Addiction Treatment

Our Heartland House team has recently implemented ATLAS, an online AI platform that enhances our capabilities in the following ways:

  • Predictive, Tailored Treatment: ATLAS helps to identify relapse risks early to ensure individuals get the intensified, personalized support they need;
  • Enhanced Counseling: ATLAS uses AI to assist our counselors in conducting Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) sessions with our clients;
  • Staff Efficiency & Better Outcomes: ATLAS streamlines administrative tasks, freeing up our dedicated counselors to spend more critical time with residents on what truly matters—personalized healing. Clinical trials confirm that AI-driven efficiency translates directly to better patient outcomes, including a 47% lower chance of hospital readmission!

In short, AI allows our counselors to be more efficient, targeted and – consequently – more successful in guiding the men in our program toward lasting sobriety.

Expanding Our Capacity: A Major Step for Transitional Living

Our data from the past two years indicates the need among our clients for safe, structured living environments. An astounding number of 164 – meaning 77% – of the residents who sought recovery services with us were homeless. And while our residential services successfully help the vast majority of these individuals find a solution to their immediate problems, the next critical step is transitioning them to economic and social security.

For several years, Heartland House has provided essential Transitional/Sober Living beds for those completing our residential treatment programs. The success of transitional living quarters has been outstanding, with an average successful stay of 9 months with a no-recurrence rate of 85%. The demand for transitional living arrangements, however, has reached an unprecedented high. Fortunately, we are making strides toward helping and are proud to announce:

New Property Acquired!

Thanks to the dedicated work and commitment of our Board of Directors, Heartland House has purchased a four-unit apartment building! This new property is located just up the street—a short 3-minute walk – from our current facility, and will dramatically increase our ability to serve the community.

This expansion will allow us to provide continued support to more men in recovery. By July 2026, we will have added through this acquisition an additional 16 beds of essential Transitional/Sober Living capacity, bringing our total of transitional beds to 32. We have made a major investment in the future and stability of our residents, reinforcing our commitment to helping more men to achieve lasting independence.

Helping the House

The steps that the House is taking in AI and transitional living capacity are critical to the future of recovery. And while we have been able to embark upon these investments, we continue to rely on the generosity of our donors to sustain our effectiveness as a top-tier recovery resource for men in the San Diego region.

Your tax-deductible contribution will directly support the technology that makes our counselors more effective and our residents’ recovery more personalized and successful, help us fund our new four-unit/16-bed transitional/sober living facility, and keep the House humming as a vital San Diego resource.

Please step up now on our behalf. The men in our program and those needing our services are counting on you to make a life-saving donation today to fund the future of recovery at Heartland House.

As the year comes to an end, we humbly ask that you remember us in your financial planning. The power to transform lives is in your hands.
