As is our custom each year, our Heartland House Banquet was highlighted by presentations to individuals who have given of their time, talent and treasure to help our House and the men who have entered it: The Conrad Prebys Award for Service was presented to Alfredo Aguirre for his stellar service as County of San Diego Behavioral Health Service Director; Michael Kenney, chef extraordinaire received the Heartland House’s Homer Rydell Award for Recovery; and we bestowed the Frank Lauer Unity Award on Frank’s wife, Marilyn Lauer, the driving force behind so many successful Heartland House fundraising initiatives. In tribute to our amazing staff of professionals, Heartland House recognized Lafitte Banville with the Mary Gessner Award for Staff Longevity.
Our Executive Director, Robert Cook, presented to our guests the compelling statistics that demonstrate the effectiveness of Heartland House in serving men on their journey to productive, substance-free lives. In 2018 our success rate continued to rise, as we achieved a rate of 57.9% of our clientele successfully transitioning to mainstream society.
To those of you who purchased items from our Silent Auction, we are deeply grateful. And for those generous individuals donated before, during and after our banquet, whether attending or not, we say a heartfelt Heartland House thank you.
And to everyone, join us in 2020 when we celebrate 60 years as the first step in men’s recovery!
