A Message from the Managing Director John Prendergrast
Greetings everyone,I’m John Prendergrast. As Managing Director at Heartland House, I’m the primary liaison between our Board of Directors and the staff of the House who do the day-to-day work. My professional specialties are finance and accounting and so I also assist the Executive Director, Robert Cook, and the House staff in the fiscal management of our organization.
In a time of multiple challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, Heartland House continues to effectively carry out our mission of helping men to recover from addiction to drugs and alcohol. Among the key reasons for our continued success is sound and lawful management of our resources. At Heartland House we are committed to fiscal responsibility through stringent internal financial policies and procedures as well as annual independent audits of our fiscal status and practices. We carefully monitor our expenditures and judiciously invest in the people, equipment and infrastructure needed to fulfill our duties. And Heartland House is a model of openness, having earned the prestigious GuideStar Gold http://www.guidestar.org/ certification for fiscal transparency.
Our Heartland House team is proceeding through early 2021 with energy and hope. We are striving to achieve several ambitious projects that will further enhance our ability to deliver the highest quality services to our clients. These include continuing to expand our telehealth (remotely provided healthcare) services, fully automating our records management system with the latest available technology, upgrading our onsite data transmission capability, and installing new safety and accessibility features in our facilities. To fund these projects, we are continually seeking ways to improve our cost efficiency, applying to grant programs, and seeking donations from our supporters. To donate, please see https://heartlandhouse.org/get-involved/support-the-house.
It has been my pleasure to serve Heartland House and work with the consummate professionals who make up our staff and Board of Directors, and I am delighted at the generosity of those individuals and organizations who have made our successes possible. I look forward to a 2021 filled with achievement and prosperity. Thanks and blessings to our Heartland House family and friends.
