Greetings and a joyous autumn, 2024 from the House! We’re enjoying happy, sober days here and getting things done.

September was National Recovery Month, and we celebrated with participation in the 12th annual McAlister Institute Walk for Sobriety.

In infrastructure news, we are making notable progress in our electrical improvements for the main house. Upgrades to the outside lighting of the building are now complete, and our contractor is working closely with San Diego Gas & Electric to obtain permits for the new 400-amp electrical panel that is the centerpiece of the project.

We’ll close with some words about training: The recovery world is an ever-changing environment. New medical discoveries are made, we uncover new data and trends in our team’s performance, and new regulatory changes are enacted, all dynamics that require us to adapt.

Training is integral to adaptation at Heartland House. By way of example: At the beginning of September, San Diego County initiated the use of a standardized electronic health record, or EHR, called SMARTCARE. This new system, which has the positive effects of aligning the county with the rest of the state of California and facilitating a more comprehensive treatment approach, also required comprehensive system training for all Heartland House staff.

But Heartland House is an atmosphere of training. Each of our staff members receives thorough onboarding and ongoing instruction to make, and keep, them knowledgeable in their professional duties. We make the most of every resource at Heartland House, and our most important one is the people who work energetically every day fulfill our team mission and improve their individual performance.

Have a great fall season!
